Bodenham Parish Council Notice

In the second of our occasional articles on all things Parish Council we look at how the work of the Parish Council is funded and how you can influence it.

Each year, a group of Parish Councillors meet to discuss the previous year’s spend and to forecast the coming year’s budget. Adjustments are made according to any information available on projects affecting the Parish (for example, provision of sandbags for flood protection) and our final requirements are given to Herefordshire Council to add to their budgetary considerations of the Council Tax for the coming year. That final Bodenham requirement figure will be given to the Parish Council in two instalments and is called “the precept”.

Council Tax, which is payable by the majority of residents, contributes to funding for many areas, including adult social care, waste collection and disposal, children and young people's services, highways and transportation and cultural and community services. The final amount of Council Tax that we all pay is set by Herefordshire Council. (This year they are proposing a 4.99% increase on last year’s amount). Only a small part of the Council Tax is allocated to village precepts: however, through careful budgetary control, we have not had to increase the Bodenham Parish Council precept for several years and are still maintaining and performing according to our responsibilities to the Parish.

The Parish Council actively encourages input from residents on what the community needs, so that we can budget for that activity. Bearing in mind that we have a limited range of powers and duties in relation to the community, we will still do our best to provide what is required. If you would like to make your views known about what the village and its residents need and have any thoughts on areas of community funding, please contact any of the parish councillors listed in the Newsletter or contact the Clerk on bodenhampcclerk@gmail.com.

Cllr. Sue Maxwell,
On behalf of Bodenham Parish Council
